The maps of India included in this atlas show the administrative set up within the country as it existed in the respective censuses but the outer jurisdictional boundary of Union of India is retained as in Census 2001. In the series of maps for the censuses from 1872 to 1941, the territories under different political and administrative control are appropriately identified and distinguished.
